DOHA: The second WISE book, a publication of World Innovation Summit for Education, is now on sale.  The book explores ways to improve the connection between education and rapidly growing job market

The 160-page Learning a Living: Radical Innovation in Education for Work is being sold on Amazon and Bloomsbury UK.

The latest publication focuses on the critical issue of challenges education systems face and ways to prepare students adequately for today’s labour market.

Through statistics, interviews, case studies and photographs, the book argues that change is necessary in education systems and the workplace.

It also suggests students must also acquire skills and values that will make a real difference for themselves and society.

Valerie Hannon, a board member of the Innovation Unit, London, which works internationally to promote innovation in public services, Sarah Gillinson and Leonie Shanks were among the team of authors for the book with photographer Reza providing vivid images that bring the case studies to life.

The team visited 15 innovative educational projects around the world from rural Nicaragua to the metropolises of Japan to find out how they have transformed education to prepare people for  job markets.

These case studies include initiatives identified by the WISE community, network of schools created by the non-governmental organisation BRAC.

Its founder and Chairman, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, was the first WISE Prize for Education laureate in 2011.

The book also showcases several WISE Award winning projects, such as Widows Alliance Network, The Smallholder Farmers Rural Radio in Nigeria, and Al Jisr School-Business Partnerships in Morocco.
