Sri Lankan community in Qatar demonstrated their love for soccer during the first season of the xZahirians’ Challenge Trophy held recently in Doha.
Twenty six football teams of various football clubs and school alumni associations of the Sri Lankan community participated in the tournament. The tournament had two segments in Veteran and Elite categories based on age.
Ten teams competed for the Veteran title while 16 teams competed for the Elite title. The Fantastic Five FC and Slave Island FC reached the finals of the Veteran while Maroons City and Zahira Mawanella reached the finals of the Elite category.
Slave Island FC were crowned Veteran Champions while Maroons City FC were crowned Champions of the Elite Category.
The Second Runner Up Trophy was won by Zahira Mawanella in Veteran Category while Zahira Puttalam won the Runner Up Trophy in Elite Category.
During the xZahirians’ challenge trophy Man of the Match Award in Veteran’s Final was awarded to Rizan Haroon (Slave Island FC), Man of the Match Award in Elites Final was given to Sana (Maroons FC), Best Goal Keeper Award for Veterans was won by Mohammed Irshan Hassim (Slave Island FC), Best Goal Keeper Award for Elites was Mulaffar Fouz (Zahira Mawanella), Golden Boot Award for Veterans was given to Rizan Harron (Slave Island FC) and Musthakeem (Zahira Puttalam) walked away with the Golden Boot Award for Elites.
The event held at Cambridge School Doha Futsal Ground and was organised by Zahira Mawanella Old Boys Association (OBA) Qatar.
The event saw a large number of participants including the members of the Zahira Mawanella Old Boys Association Qatar, Sri Lankan soccer fans in Qatar, members of the participating clubs, families and children enjoyed a great day of soccer. —The Peninsula
