Doha: The Ministry of Public Health has issued a circular today to all pharmacies, supermarkets and hypermarkets fixing the maximum selling price for Covid 19 rapid test kit.
The circular clarified that the maximum selling price for Covid-19 home test kit produced by Roche Diagnostics GmbH will be QR 35 and for rest of the manufacturers the selling price is QR 25 in all pharmacies.
The action comes after many consumers were complaining on social media about some pharmacies hiking the price and few of them refusing to sell individual kits and insisting on buying in bulk.
As per some pharmacy sources there was a shortage of kits due to the panic buying and it is expected to ease soon as more kits are expected to reach the market.
The circular stated that based on Article No. (28) of Law No. (3) of 1983 regulating pharmacies, intermediaries and agents of pharmaceutical factories and companies, which states that the competent authority may, whenever necessary, and in partnership with whomever it deems fit set the maximum prices for medicines and medical preparations, and their profit rates.
The price must be set on each medical product or medication, and it is prohibited to sell more than the declared price.
