ISLAMABAD: After furnishing surety bonds of Rs2.5m to avoid arrest in a treason case, former president General Pervez Musharraf has filed an application before the special court against issuance of his arrest warrant. He requested the court to reverse the process of issuing the bailable warrant to ensure his attendance at the hearing. Defence counsel Faisal Hussain said Musharraf had furnished bonds ‘under protest’. “Since the question about jurisdiction of the special court is pending, he thinks that the three-member bench lacks jurisdiction to proceed in the matter,” Hussain said.
Three die in Afghan raids
Kabul: Three Taliban militants were killed and five were injured during operations by Afghan national security forces. Operations were conducted during the past 24 hours by police, army and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel. The Interior Ministry of Afghanistan said operations were carried out in Nangarhar, Kapisa, Kunduz, Kandahar, Zabul and Logar provinces.
US ‘curtails’ drone strikes
Washington: The Obama administration has sharply curtailed drone strikes in Pakistan after a request from the government for restraint as it pursues peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban, according to a US official. “That’s what they asked for, and we didn’t tell them no.” The administration said it will carry out strikes against senior Al Qaeda targets if they became available, and move to thwart any direct, imminent threat to Americans.
