Doha: Each year between November and January, Ikea stores across the globe run the Soft Toys for Education Campaign to raise funds to help educate underprivileged children around the world.
As an extension to the 2014–2015 campaign, Ikea hosted an in-store drawing competition in Qatar in November 2014 to inspire young children and encourage creativity. There were more than 130 participants. Each of the 20 finalists whose drawings were chosen for Sweden were invited to the store and handed a prize to reward their creative effort and contribution. Ikea Qatar also announced a country-level winner, five-year-old Esandi Nethma Peelikumbara, who was present to receive a special gift to congratulate the great work.
Finalist’s drawings from Ikea stores worldwide were submitted to Ikea of Sweden, where 10 winning drawings will ultimately be chosen and developed into real soft toys that will be sold at Ikea stores globally.
James McGowan, Regional Brand Communication Manager, Ikea Qatar, UAE, Egypt and Oman said: “This heart-warming campaign enables Ikea to co-create with these imaginative, little designers and help contribute even better towards the Soft Toys for Education Campaign. While Ikea remains the enabler in this event, it is these children who deserve the spotlight. This is our effort to offer them all the accolades they deserve and treat them as worthy collaborators.”THE PENINSULA
