MoI, GU-Q to cooperate in emergency management

Doha: The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Standing Committee for Emergency, and Georgetown University in Qatar yesterday signed a letter of intent for joint coordination and cooperation in the areas of research, strategic studies and scholarships.
The letter was signed by Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, Director General of Public Security and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Emergency, and Dr Kelly Otter, dean of Georgetown University in Washington.
The agreement aims to establish a comprehensive programme of education, training and applied research in the field of emergency management in addition to supporting initiatives and projects that concern the two sides.
It also envisages cooperation in holding conferences, symposiums and educational programmes and exchange of visits.
The director of the operations department at the General Directorate of Civil Defence, Brig. Hamad Othman Al Duhaimi, who is also secretary of the Standing Committee for Emergency, said the ministry seeks to benefit from the university’s studies, research, seminars, workshops and conferences related to crisis and disaster management and share scientific and professional experiences related to emergencies and public policy.
