DOHA: The fifth edition of Qatar Motor Show, a magnet for the world’s top luxury car makers, began yesterday with glitz and glamour that highlighted its status as a key motoring event in the Middle East.
The show brings together some of the most notable international carmakers showcasing their latest models. About 35 automobile brands are participating, representing the best of the global industry such as Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Honda and Suzuki.
The show was opened by H E Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, and Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohammadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority. The minister later toured the venue, spread over 15,000 square metres.
“The opening day was very well received by the VIPs and the media as they were delighted with the new product launches for the region. We hope the public, who will be able to visit us from tomorrow (Friday), will be equally delighted,” said Ibrahim Abdullah Al Malki, Chief Enterprise Officer, q.media, a part of Qatar Media Services.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Doha, the sole authorised dealer of Rolls-Royce cars in Qatar, is showcasing the Rolls-Royce Wraith, billed as one of the most powerful and dynamic cars ever produced by the ultra-luxury marque. The Wraith is said to combine automotive and engineering excellence with the pinnacle of luxury, capturing the interest of younger and more dynamic motorists.
Rolls Royce is also showcasing the Phantom Coupé to complement the discerning taste of Qatari luxury connoisseurs. The Phantom Coupé has a two-tone theme, combining Arabian Blue with an English White bonnet and roof, and a Crème Light coachline.
Volkswagen Middle East is presenting two concept cars – the sporty Golf R 400 and the virtual super GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo from the PlayStation 3 game “Gran Turismo 6”.
The Golf R 400 is the sharpest production Golf ever and one of the most agile sports cars in its class, said Lysann Schubert, an exhibitor with Volkswagen.
The GTI Roadster concept was originally created as a purely computer-generated car. The two-seat convertible is powered by a 3.0L V6 biturbo engine that produces a power of 370 kW / 503 HP, Schubert added.
Mannai Auto Group has unveiled the all-new Cadillac ATS Coupe, which offers drivers rear-wheel drive and power from a 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine.
Nasser bin Khaled Automobiles, the exclusive dealer in Mercedes-Benz cars in Qatar, has launched four brands, including Mercedes-Maybach S Class, AMG GT S, CLA 250 and GLA 45 AMG, said Dirk Fetzer, Director of Sales and Marketing at Daimler Middle East.THE PENINSULA
