Doha: Despite taking a one-goal lead twice in the match, leaders Al Sadd had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Al Wakrah at home yesterday, as the Qatar Stars League resumed after a 45-day break.
Star striker Khalfan Ibrahim opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from just inside the
penalty area. But Al Wakrah equalised just eight minutes later when Hamood Yazidi’s brilliant free kick found the back of the net.
The ‘Wolves’ again went ahead in the 64th minute when Ali Asadallah slotted home from a corner kick.
But Mouchine Moutouali levelled the scores again in the 77th minute as he curled the
ball through the gap between
two defenders and past the keeper.
The 11th-placed side then gave the league leaders a tough time but Al Sadd managed to hold on for the rest of the game to salvage a point.
That gave the ‘Wolves’ a slender one-point lead at the top of the standings which could be short-lived if Lekhwiya beat Al Gharafa today at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium.
In yesterday’s other games, Cho Young-Cheol’s last-gasp goal gave Qatar SC the win over Al Sailiya and Al Khor thrashed Al Ahli 4-2.
