DOHA: The Ambassador of France, Jean-Christophe Peaucelle, held a reception at his residence yesterday to grant French citizenship to seven people who live in Doha. The new citizens are of five origins: Algerian, Lebanese, Moroccan, Tunisian and Uzbek.
During the ceremony, the ambassador handed over official documents of French nationality to the seven, who were accompanied by their spouses and kids as well as some friends and relatives.
He underlined that there was no difference between citizens who were born French and those who acquired citizenship and that all could enjoy the same rights and share the same duties.
The ambassador also stressed the values of the Republic of France, “liberté, égalité, fraternité”, and welcomed his compatriots who then became part of the French community, to which they bring the diversity of their talents.
The French community in Qatar is continuously increasing and amounts now to some 3,500 people registered with the embassy.
