Two Arabs arrested for duping shops with fake credit cards

Doha: The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested two Arab nationals with 15 fake credit cards used for purchasing watches, computers, mobile phones and gifts worth QR75,000 from a number of shops in the country. 

Acting on a tip-off from the one of the banks, a special investigation team was formed with experts from financial crimes section and cyber crimes investigation centre. The team visited shops duped with fake cards and based on statements of salesmen and CCTV recordings, concluded that the fraudsters were Arab nationals. 

Through search, investigation and information gathering and inferences about the suspects collected from details of suspicious transactions, the first suspect was arrested while trying to leave the country.

During interrogation of the suspects, it became clear that one more person was involved and authorities arrested him at a hotel after obtaining permission from the Pubic Prosecution.  

The investigation team also seized expensive watches, computers, mobile phones and gifts along with the credit cards.

The accused were referred to the Public Prosecution, along with the booty.
