DOHA: The State Cabinet yesterday called on the public not to have prejudices about the gas tank blast in a restaurant near Landmark Mall last Thursday and wait until the investigation report is issued.
“The competent authorities are still working to complete the investigation and will issue in the near future a comprehensive and clear cut statement about the incident,” the Cabinet said in a statement issued after its weekly session.
The Cabinet was briefed on a report on the incident, its causes and the necessary measures and precautions to prevent such incidents in future and conveyed deep condolences to the families of the victims.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani presided over the meeting.
The cabinet lauded the quick response of the concerned sections “which dealt with the incident professionally and with responsibility” and praised the citizens and residents for “their reluctance to be deceived by the incorrect rumours and information circulated on the incident,” Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
The Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning briefed the Cabinet on the data relating to the unified system for numbering of buildings and facilities, ‘My Address’ as well as a survey of all buildings in the country being carried out by the ministry in coordination with the concerned government bodies. The Cabinet was also briefed on the project for creating a directory for the numbering of buildings.
The directory includes all the figures for buildings and provides the database through the national network of geographic information systems for all government organs.
The Prime Minister referred to the applications and benefits of such a system on the security level, traffic, health, education and postal service levels and considering such a system an effective and accurate tool in the associated statistics and studies process and one of the important tools in the planning and implementation of projects related to the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The cabinet approved raising the prize value of the State Merit and Incentive Awards in science, arts and literature, to QR500,000 for the State Merit Award and QR300,000 for the State Incentive Award.
It also approved a draft agreement on air services between Qatar and Slovakia.
