Budapest:  Hungary said Friday it would suspend the issuing of visas to Iranian citizens, after confirming that three out of the four cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed in the EU member so far involved Iranians.

"The Hungarian government has indefinitely suspended the issuing of visas to Iranian citizens," Tibor Lakatos, head of the government's coronavirus task force, told reporters in Budapest without giving further details.

The new coronavirus has infected more than 100,000 people across 92 countries globally, according to an AFP tally Friday.

There has as yet been no announcement from Hungary about visa restrictions for Chinese or South Korean nationals.
