Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the receipt of a new investment cash endowment worth QR100,000, donated by a Qatari benefactor to support the “Waqf of Waqfs” initiative under the endowment fund for charity and piety.

The endowment, which will be managed under the supervision of the Directorate, carries a distinctive condition set by the donor: the annual proceeds of the endowment will be reinvested to establish a new endowment every year, creating a continuously expanding cycle of charitable giving and sustainable social impact.

Saleh Al-Houl Al Marri, Head of the Endowers Affairs Section at the Endowment Funds Department, praised the initiative, describing it as a blessed contribution that reflects a deep awareness of the role of endowments in supporting sustainable development.

He explained that the donor deliberately chose a development-oriented endowment model designed to generate additional endowments over time, highlighting the importance of the “Waqf of Waqfs” concept as a long-term philanthropic vision that extends the benefits of charitable giving across generations.

According to the Directorate, the idea behind the initiative is to invest the original endowment capital and dedicate its proceeds entirely to establishing a new endowment in the first year.

In subsequent years, the proceeds of the newly established endowment will be directed toward the charitable purpose specified by the donor, while the proceeds of the original endowment will continue to fund the creation of a new endowment every year.

This mechanism gradually expands the number of endowment projects over time, enhancing the sustainability of charitable giving and multiplying its social and developmental impact.

Officials noted that establishing a new endowment annually from the returns of the main endowment is a key feature of the “Waqf of Waqfs” initiative, an innovative model developed by the General Directorate of Endowments to broaden the long-term impact of charitable endowments. The approach allows each donated amount to become the starting point for a growing chain of endowments supporting various charitable sectors.

The initiative represents a unique model for philanthropic investment in the development of endowments, based on a long-term vision that converts annual returns into a sequence of successive endowments. This approach significantly amplifies social impact and contributes to supporting a wide range of charitable causes.

The “Waqf of Waqfs” is among the prominent initiatives launched by the Directorate to strengthen the endowment system in Qatar and provide sustainable income sources for the country’s six endowment funds serving various charitable and social sectors.

The General Directorate of Endowments continues to facilitate procedures for registering and documenting endowments, issuing official waqf deeds, and providing Sharia-compliant investment services that preserve the assets of donors and ensure their conditions are implemented accurately.

Through its Endowers Affairs Centre, the Directorate also offers integrated services for philanthropists, including Sharia consultations, preparation and documentation of waqf deeds, and responses to inquiries related to endowments and charitable bequests.
