ABU DHABI // A driver who was convicted of possessing a film of an Emirati woman dancing in the desert has appealed against his jail term.

The Court of Appeal heard that M F, a Bangladeshi, was working illegally as a driver for three Emirati college students — two sisters and their friend, reported a local daily.

He used to drive them each day from their home in Al Gharbia to college and back.

One day, he showed one of the sisters a video of a woman dancing in the desert, claiming it was her sister acting in an obscene manner.

This sister reported the driver to the police for possessing footage of her sister without her permission.

Prosecutors also charged M F with illegally using his private car as a taxi.

The Court of First Instance sentenced him to four months in prison plus deportation.

At the Appeals Court, the sister denied that it was her in the video, saying the woman did not even look like her.

M F also said that the woman in the clip was an Indian dancer in the desert, and not the sister.

The court adjourned the case until April 21 to announce a verdict.
