DOHA: Qatari-based educational technology start-up ibTECHar and SEK International School Qatar have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) to pilot the use of Making & Discovery technologies in schools in Qatar to enrich Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
The pilot entails providing the infrastructure of this technology, design lesson plans matching the school curriculum, and train the instructors on how to use these technologies.
This partnership aims at publishing a case study that contributes to enriching STEM education in Qatar schools, through the Making and Discovery philosophy, within real life context.
It hopes to improve STEM education by introducing the proper tools and technologies to school infrastructure in Qatar, and jumpstart an organic grassroots Making and Discovery culture.
“SEK International schools place a high priority on technology and this project supports our aim to encourage our students to be innovators.
“Our students are really excited to start working with the 3D printer and they hope to make many functional and creative designs.
SEK-Qatar is pleased to be one of the first schools in Doha to develop such a partnership with ibTECHar and we value their input working with our community of learners over the coming weeks,” said Vivian Arif, School Principal.
“Our partnership with SEK International School is a way to emphasise how important to support local start-ups/SMEs to create a flourishing future for the country and encourage innovation combined with building local capacity.
And today ibTECHar marked an important milestone in that direction by building an institutionalized approach with one of the best schools in Qatar towards carrying the message,” said Khalid Aboujassoum, founder and manager of ibTECHar.
IbTECHar and SEK International School expect this partnership to be a key milestone and a first step in integrating the private sector with the schools and education eco-system in Qatar.
