Qatar Charity, Unicef in humanitarian drive

DOHA: Qatar Charity has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian projects targeting women and children.

The memorandum was signed by Maria Calivis, Unicef Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Region and and Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity.

The MoU will enable strengthening humanitarian response and prevention, and development projects, for the benefit of children and women. 

The agreement will focus on area such as development, basic education, gender equality, fighting HIV among children, prevention and response to incidents of violence, exploitation and abuse and the development of policies and partnerships to support the rights of the child.

Calivis praised the important role played by Qatar, and particularly Qatar Charity, in the field of childhood and humanitarian relief and recalled the previous cooperation between Qatar Charity and Unicef, especially the joint projects in Somalia.

“This partnership is an example of the integration of the United Nations agencies and NGOs work in the field of humanitarian relief and development. We hope that this step will encourage other institutions in the Arabian Gulf region, to strengthen its cooperation with us in the areas of mutual interest including the good of all, especially the underprivileged segments of the world”, said Calivis.

Aid for 1,700 Syrian refugees in Iraq  

Doha: Qatar Charity has distributed 440 packets of food, clothes, hygiene supplies and kitchenware to the Syrian refugees in Al Qaim area of Iraq. Qatar Charity said in a statement yesterday that 1,744 Syrians in two refugees centres in Al Qaim have benefited this aid.QNA
