DOHA: The duties of civic inspectors should include creating awareness among workers about the health and safety regulations as well as the labour law, according to a discussion at a workshop here recently.

The inspectors should conduct inspections carefully and take care while transferring a case to the public prosecution, the workshop was told by experts.
Inspectors from the various municipalities held a workshop and they were told they need public prosecution’s permission to mount raids on residence, while they can enter a public place like an eatery, shop or factory freely.
According to a local Arabic daily, inspectors have discovered during raids that workers are generally not aware of health and safety rules as well as provisions of the labor law.
Meanwhile, the daily reported that for the first time on Sunday, civic inspectors from Doha Municipality, in collaboration with their counterparts from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, conducted raids in residential localities in Doha to make sure if workers’ labour camps remain in some family areas in violation of the 2010 law that bans them.
