DOHA: In an effort to raise awareness among children, adults and families about the necessary guidelines that must be followed in emergency situations, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Ambulance Service recently held a week-long campaign under the slogan ‘Help Us Help You’ at the Landmark Mall.
The campaign featured an educational booth where Ambulance Service staff encouraged visitors to learn about the ‘Know the Five to Save a Life’ initiative that stresses the five key steps the public should follow when they find themselves in emergencies. The steps to be followed include: call 999 immediately; know your location; answer all the questions as asked; follow as best as possible the instructions given by the communication dispatcher; most importantly, to give way to ambulances on the road.
Almost 4,500 expats and locals of all ages visited the booth where the new Mercedes Sprint ambulance was on display. Visitors were able to observe the latest and state-of-the-art equipment used by paramedics and emergency care doctors in critical situations as well as communicate with the professionals face-to-face and ask any questions regarding precautions, emergency procedures and services. At the booth, car stickers, “Know the 5” pocket cards and ambulance-shaped stress balls were also given out to the public.
Ambulance Service Operations Manager Ahmed Al Bakri, noted on the occasion, “this type of an activity has a huge influence on the public, as the face-to-face interaction helps deliver our message effectively to families and individuals regarding how they could save someone’s life in an emergency by following simple instructions.”
