CAIRO: Egypt’s former army chief Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, the frontrunner in a new presidential election, said yesterday that if he was elected the army will have no role in ruling the country.

Sisi is expected to win the May 26-27 election easily. “The army will not have a role in ruling Egypt,” Sisi told two private television channels in his first interview since announcing his candidacy in March.  Sisi also said that the Muslim Brotherhood movement of deposed leader Mohamed Mursi was finished in Egypt and would not return if he was elected.
