Doha: Head of the Follow-up Office of the Court of First Instance H E Judge Ghanem bin Thamer Al Humaidi confirmed that the adjudication of cases in the Criminal Court reached 99.7 percent during the 2021-2022 judicial season, and 100 percent of all cases before 2020 were resolved.

Al Humaidi said in a statement on the occasion of the end of the judicial season, that during the past year, the Criminal Court considered approximately 71,480 lawsuits, of which 71,430 were resolved, which represents more than 99.7 percent of the cases. He elaborated that the court has established a mechanism to decide on some simple cases within one day, such as traffic cases and environmental issues, where the competent judge issues the judgment during the same session without delay. Moreover, the percentage of judgments issued in one session constitutes approximately 20 percent of the total lawsuits considered by the criminal, this is without prejudice to the guarantees of the legal authority.

Al Humaidi added that the court inaugurated specialized judicial departments, such as a dedicated department for environmental issues, and another for family lawsuits. This comes within the framework of the Supreme Judiciary Council’s plan to develop judicial work and ensure the achievement of prompt justice, which includes speed in litigation procedures, quality and workmanship, in a manner that guarantees the rights of all. The judge pointed out that the court currently includes about 35 judicial departments.

Regarding benefiting from modern technologies in the work of the court, the judge said that all litigation rooms in the court were equipped with advanced technology means that comply with the latest international systems in this field; launching self-service and information devices and enabling the option to perform a case status follow up electronically, to name some. Furthermore, the Judge explained that most of the court departments are currently operating via the electronic system, where all cases are examined, without any paper dossiers. Likewise, court decisions and judicial accreditation are also made electronically which reflects the efforts of the Supreme Judiciary Council in developing the judicial system and achieving prompt justice in line with the developments in the country on all fronts.

Judge Al Humaidi explained that all court services have become 100 percent electronic and available through the courts’ portal, which contributed to the speedy processing of cases which is saving litigants time and effort.

He also added that during the 2021 judicial season, the court received more than 30,000 electronic requests, at a rate of 1,500 requests per week.

Furthermore, the most prominent electronic services used by lawyers and litigants are the submission of applications, in addition to the services for inquiring about cases.
