Doha: Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti expressed pride in the continuous support, generous patronage, and valuable trust bestowed upon the council by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, saying that this confidence serves as a motivation to continue fulfilling the council's constitutional mandates, enhancing its role in serving the nation and its citizens, and contributing to national development.

In remarks marking the conclusion of the first ordinary session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the 54th annual session, Her Excellency said the council had continued to perform its legislative and oversight responsibilities with a high national spirit and an institutional approach based on the supreme interests of the state, focusing on discussing issues that impact society and meet citizens' aspirations.

Her Excellency commended the productive and constructive cooperation between the Shura Council and the government, which has reinforced the complementarity of roles between the legislative and executive branches. This collaboration has supported the council's work in studying draft laws and following up on priority national files, thereby advancing development and aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030.

She noted that the current session featured intensive legislative and oversight work, during which the council held 37 ordinary sessions and completed the study of 23 draft laws, in addition to general discussion sessions and hearings that hosted several ministers and senior officials. This contributed to strengthening the council's oversight role and monitoring the performance and strategic plans of government entities.

HE the Deputy Speaker highlighted that social issues, particularly family and upbringing, were prominently addressed in the council's work. She emphasized that this focus reflects the council's connection to societal issues and aspirations, citing the proposal of a law on digital protection for children as an important topic that keeps pace with rapid technological changes and enhances legislative protection for children from digital risks.

Her Excellency pointed out that the work of the permanent committees was a key pillar supporting the council's activities, praising the cooperation, commitment, and active participation of the council members in both general sessions and committee meetings, as well as their dedication to studying presented topics in a responsible manner that serves the public interest.

She also hailed the important role played by the council's General Secretariat in supporting the work of sessions and committees, and in providing the necessary technical, administrative, and organizational requirements for the smooth functioning of parliamentary work.

In conclusion, Her Excellency extended her thanks to Their Excellencies council members, the General Secretariat, all its affiliates, and everyone who contributed to supporting the council's work during the session.
