Low pressure area turns into cyclone near Palawan

MANILA: The low pressure area being monitored by the state weather bureau near Palawan province has intensified into a tropical depression.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) named the latest tropical cyclone as “Kiko.”

The weather bureau said that as of 4pm, the cyclone’s centre was estimated at 280 kilometres northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometres per hour and was forecast to move west northwest at a speed of 15 kph.
