DOHA: Students from 30 nationalities live in the hostels of Qatar University (QU), says an official in-charge of the university’s housing department.
Dr Yusuf Ahmed Al Sada said that the number of resident students at the university is presently 415.
Of these, 220 are girls while the remaining 195 are male students.
Hostel accommodations are being expanded as 140 new resident students (70 men and 70 women) are expected to join the hostels from the new academic year.
The hostels have all the facilities, including clinics and nurses, halls for meetings, lectures and cultural activities, as well as entertainment and sports facilities.
The hostel complex is fitted with CCTVs. An entire new hostel complex is being built. It consists of six buildings that would together accommodate some 900 students, half of them women.
Some 80 percent of the work is over and the entire project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year, said Al Sada.
Another four buildings are coming up that will have single rooms.
The complex will have some 650 car parking slots, Al Sada told local Arabic daily Al Watan in comments published yesterday.
