MANILA: The Sandiganbayan First Division has decided to keep Sen Ramon Revilla Jr and his former chief of staff Richard Cambe detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Centre in Camp Crame.
In a ruling issued yesterday, the anti-graft court junked the prosecution’s motion seeking their transfer to another jail facility managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for lack of merit. Revilla is facing plunder and graft charges before the anti-graft court, along with Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada in connection with the PDAF scam.
Estrada is also detained at the Custodial Center, while Enrile is at the PNP General Hospital.
The Sandiganbayan disagreed with ombudsman lawyers that the PNP Custodial Centre is not a detention facility and rejected arguments that Revilla and Cambe are being accorded special treatment.
The Sandiganbayan noted the fact that Revilla and Cambe are deprived of liberty as a consequence of their being charged with plunder for alleged involvement in PDAF scam is sufficient.
