DOHA: As part of efforts to enforcing consumer rights, inspectors from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, during August, detected and fined some 121 violations made by business outlets in various areas across the country.

In a press statement, the Ministry said that these violations were of various natures, which included lack of proper pricing of items, fake and fraudulent display of item specifications, lack of item price in Arabic, lack of invoices, price increase without approval from the concerned authority, and display of expired products among other.

Penalties varied between administrative closure and fines ranging from QR5,000 to QR30,000 as per the laws and organizing regulations related to consumers’ rights.

The Ministry conducted intensive inspection campaigns on outlets throughout August 2015 to ensure their commitment to the provisions of the Law No. 8 for the year 2008 on consumers’ rights protection.

This comes within the framework of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to monitor the local market and the commercial activities in order to control prices and detect violations.

The ministry stresses that it will intensify its campaigns to ensure stricter control over the local market and warns violators, saying it will be strict with them and will refer them to the concerned authorities to have proper penalties as per the law.

Customers have been urged to report any violation related to consumers’ rights through various communication channels.
