AMMAN: One hundred and thirty Sri Lankan domestic workers who had taken refuge at their embassy in Jordan have been hospitalised with food poisoning, a security official said.

Colonel Farid al-Sharaa, in a statement, said their condition was "stable" after having fallen ill from food ordered from a restaurant. The women were taken to three hospitals in Amman after receiving first aid, he said.

The women had taken refugee at the Sri Lankan embassy after rows with their employers and were awaiting repatriation or a settlement to return to work. (AFP)
