DOHA: Barely two weeks after the reopening of the Villaggio Mall, restaurants operating there have been subject to a raid by civic inspectors to check if they are complying with health and safety regulations, local Arabic daily Al Sharq reported yesterday.
Al Rayyan municipality meanwhile, conducted a total of 300 inspection raids during the last week, which resulted in issuing 102 violations for health requirements and two recorded cases for food violations.
700 kilos of food destroyed
The health departments of Al Khor, Al Zakhra and Al Rayyan municipalities destroyed 700 kilos of food after conducting numerous inspections in stores, beauty salons and barber shops.
The municipalities conducted many inspection campaigns and issued 11 violations for health requirements. A total of 700 kilograms of food, including 565 kilograms of different types of fish, were confiscated and destroyed during this campaign. Six establishments made a commitment to follow the health code and will be under follow up surveillance.
The health inspectors also took 12 samples of different items, such as chicken and mineral water, to check up in the central laboratory.
There were also visits to slaughterhouses, where 499 animals were inspected, two of which were destroyed.
A total of eight new licences have been issued for eateries and eight chicken samples were withdrawn from the Qatar Arab Poultry Company.
