MANILA: Police killed six suspected hijackers in separate encounters in Cavite province, before dawn yesterday.
Senior Superintendent John Bulalacao, director of the Cavite provincial police office, identified three of the six slain suspects as Jonjie Lianco, Robert Santos and Jesse Gonzales. The identities were based on the identification cards seized from the suspects’ bodies.
Bulalacao said that Lianco and Santos had police IDs, which are now being checked for authenticity.
He said that the operatives spotted Lianco, Santos, Villanueve and a still unidentified suspect on board two vehicles along Campus Avenue in Barangay San Agustin, Dasmariñas, at around 2am.
Bulalacao said that three of the suspects were on board a maroon Mitsubishi with no licence plates and the fourth suspect was on board a white Isuzu van.
He said that the suspects fired at the policemen when they were accosted, starting a gun battle.
Three hurt in North Cotabato blast
KIDAPAWAN CITY: Three persons, including a village official, were wounded when a fragmentation grenade went off just a few feet away from an abandoned Army detachment in Pikit town in North Cotabato, on Thursday night.
Senior Inspector Elias Dandan, chief of the Pikit police office, identified the victims as Gilbert Perdida, barangay councilor of Kapinpilan, Midsayap; Renante Duelo of Midsayap; and Datuan Patugkain from Pikit town.
Dandan said the victims, Perdida and Duelo, were on board a tricycle driven by Patugkain, when the blast happened. The blast took place at around 8:20pm.
