Doha: The Public Relations and Community Policing departments of the Ministry of Interior organised mega entertainment events for expat communities on the first day of Eid Al Adha on Saturday at West End Park in Industrial Area and Al Khor Sports Club.
The events showcased cultural programmes and performances led by local artistes from Asian communities.
The Assistant Director of Community Policing Department, Lt. Col. Sultan Muhammed Al Kaabi, inaugurated the festival in West End Park in the presence of the Indonesian Ambassador Didi Saiful Hadi.
The Head of Security Media Section at the Public Relations Department, Capt. Hadi Al Hajiri, Community Policing Officer, Capt. Rashid Al Khayarin, Second Secretary at the Nepalese Embassy, Acting President, ICC, Girish, President of NRNA, Maqsood Alam, representatives Tharick Qassim (Sri Lankan community), Zainul Arifieen (Indonesian community), Ashraf Siddeequi and Amin Motivala (Pakistani community), Country Manager, Malabar Gold, Santhosh, and Sales Manager, Al Marai Co., Jamal, and President of V-Care, Musthafa, were present.
“It is my pleasure to greet you on the occasion of Eid Al Adha. The ministry has organised the programme for expat communities within the framework of the community outreach programme under the Public Relations Department to enhance partnership with the expat communities,” Lt. Col. Al Kaabi said.
Activities at Al Khor Sports Club was inaugurated by Lt. Shaheen Rashid Al Atheeque from the Public Relations Department in the presence of Lt. Salim Al Shammari from Community Policing and the Nepalese and Al Khor community teams.
Events at West End Park attracted a huge crowd, including families and bachelors, and included dances and performances by local artistes from the Indian, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indonesian communities.
Hindi songs, dance performances by the ICC team, a dance by Gujarati Samaj, folk songs by Banghya Parishat, a cultural performance by Ideal Indian School, a traditional show by Kerala Cultural Association, cultural show and cinematic dance by Skills Development Centre, traditional show by Kerala Cultural Association and the Indian community were staged.
The Nepalese community performed modern and folk songs, traditional dances, and a cultural show, while activities of the Pakistan community included modern, Urdu and Pashto songs, cultural performance and traditional dances.
Sri Lankan artists performed modern and traditional songs, Sri Lankan Arabic cultural dance and Sri Lankan cultural drumming session.
Traditional, folk and group songs, a costumes show, dance were among the activities performed by the Bangladeshi community. The Indonesian community team performed Indang, Rantak Besapi, Dolanan, Tortor Sinanggar Tulo, Jaipong Daun, Pulus and Rampak Pemudi dances.
Performances by Al Khor and Nepalese community teams started at Al Khor Stadium at 5pm. Sports events included a football match and a tug-of-war between company teams.
