Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn
Washington: Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn is backing Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, due to the Republican candidate's plan to strengthen U.S. military and take steps for the war on ISIS, he said in exclusive statements to QNA.
Lamborn said he fears that, if elected, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will follow the same strategies adopted by President Barack Obama in fighting the militant group.
The Republican representative, who was recently appointed vice chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services, added that the next president will face a number of strategic challenges involving the plans and policies of Russia and China, particularly in the military field, in addition to the war on terror and North Korea's nuclear program.
In order for the new administration to face these obstacles, Lamborn said, the next president must set future plans to strengthen the U.S. military and defend the national interests and regional stability, which is why the current agenda must be revisited.
He added that the future president must set a larger budget for high-level training for the military in order to ensure a safer United States.
On Trump's agenda for immigration and his call for banning Muslim from entering the country, Lamborn said the United States welcomes all immigrants but added that Trump also believes in the rule of law and is keen on the safety and security of his people, noting that he supports the strict enforcement of law against illegal immigrants.
He added that it is the responsibility of the U.S. administration to ensure that any newcomer works to enrich the American society and enhance its national security not to harm it.
The congressman said it is important to strictly implement plans to examine immigration applicants, adding that these plans must include the temporary suspension of granting entry visas to citizens of countries with links to "terrorism" and use "ideology tests" while taking into consideration religious freedom and gender equality.
Meanwhile, Lamborn said Trump's statements on women does not affect the congressman's own position in the congressional elections that are held in parallel with the presidential vote, pointing out that the Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC) has recently endorsed his campaign. However, he emphasized the importance of Trump apologizing to women for his obscene statements, saying that they do not reflect the Republican candidate's personality.
Lamborn added that if he were to win the congressional race, his policies will work towards empowering the American family, reducing taxes and strengthening social and economic rights for the American citizen. (QNA)
