Doha: Al Rayyan were held 1-1 by Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab in Round 3 of the Gulf Club Champions League (GCCL) at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium yesterday.
Andre Amaro put the hosts ahead in the 43rd minute of the Group B clash. Al Shabab went down to 10 men on 60 minutes when Mubarak Al Rajih was sent off, but Yannick Carrasco levelled in the 87th to snatch a point. Al Rayyan move to 5 points and stay top of the group, while Al Shabab climb to 2 points. The result came after Oman’s Al Nahda drew with Yemen’s Hadramout, keeping Al Rayyan in first place.
Al Rayyan will now prepare for a Qatar Stars League clash against Al Shahania on Sunday. They are currently placed fifth in the standings with 13 points - six points behind leaders Al Gharafa.
