DOHA: A story headlined ‘Expatriates remit QR47.5bn in 2011’ which appeared on page 1 of this newspaper yesterday says in paragraph 5, that “India and the Philippines together received more than 72 percent of the total workers’ remittances” which is incorrect. The complete sentence was “the 10 top recipient countries led by India and the Philippines received 72 percent of the total workers’ remittances”. The beginning part of the sentence was inadvertently removed while putting the story in print. The error is regretted. The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has cited in its annual report for 2011 the 10 top remittance-receiving countries in 2011 as India, the Philippines, USA, Egypt, the UAE, Nepal, Bangladesh, the UK, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
