Mohammed Sufi feeding pigeons on the Corniche. SAJAD SAHEER

DOHA: Fifty-sevenyear- old Mohammed Sufi spends 50kg of birdseed and three gallons of water every day to feed hundreds of pigeons on the Corniche.
Regular passers-by cannot help but admire the man’s good deed every day.
For the past two years he has stayed in Qatar, Sufi has never missed a day to feed the pigeons on the Corniche and at another location in West Bay.
Having retired from his job, Sufi left his hometown Hyderabad, India, to join his son who is working here.
His kindness for the winged creatures has driven him to his commitment to feed them.
Sufi could be seen in the area interacting with pigeons which have become so familiar with him that they perch on his lap and eat.
He buys birdseed which costs QR3 a kg from the souq.
His compassion for pigeons is no surprise since he says he had been feeding the pigeons in his home town.
“There is a famous mosque called Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad and I would always go there every day to feed the pigeons whose number had reached around 3,000,” he recalled.
