DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) is organising a three-day certified training workshop on shipment of biological samples, in coordination with World Health Organisation.
It will train up to 25 employees from relevant sectors such as Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar University, Animal Resources Department, Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Airways and others, the SCH said in a statement yesterday.
Participants passing tests will receive a certificate from International Air Transport Association, which is responsible for shipment of biological samples. The workshop also aims to strengthen global cooperation with specialised research centres.
Representatives of customs and shipping companies have attended the workshop and discussed how to overcome difficulties caused by lack of awareness of shipping regulations and legal requirements.
Biological samples are taken from patients’ tissues and fluids for analysis. Since specimen may be infected with diseases, they are needed to be carefully handled during collection, shipping and analysis to ensure infectious fluids do not escape into the environment to endanger public health.
