Police officers show seized 11 pieces of ivory weighing 55 kg estimated to be of street value 5.5 million Kenyan Shilling (about 47.300 euro) at Mariakani, southeast Kenya, on December 5, 2018.

The ivories were seized during the undercover joint operation by Kenyan police and Kenya Wildlife Service at a forest as two men tried to sell the ivories in a forest nearby.

In March this year, Kenya joined more than 32 other African countries in signing a landmark petition calling on the European Union to ban its ivory trade and ivory markets. AFP
