Christoph K Franzen (pictured) is the new General Manager of Grand Hyatt Doha with effect from January 13. He has been transferred from Grand Hyatt Muscat where he was the General Manager since January 2009.

From the resort town of Zermatt in Switzerland, he started his hotel career as a Chef at a gourmet restaurant in Switzerland. After finishing his chef apprenticeship, he went on to become a certified Sommelier in 1989. From there onwards, he was promoted to managerial positions in different hotel chains until he joined Hyatt Regency Dubai in 1999 as Assistant Revenue Manager after having completed his studies in Hotel Management.

During his tenure at Hyatt Regency Dubai, Franzen was promoted to Front Office Manager in what was then Hyatt’s biggest operation in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He then moved to Grand Hyatt Muscat in 2001 to assume the role of Front Office Manager; he was subsequently promoted to Director of Rooms at the hotel. In 2005, Franzen was transferred to Russia as Director of Rooms at Park Hyatt Ararat in Moscow. His next promotion took him back to Dubai as Executive Assistant Manager of the 674 rooms Grand Hyatt. Then in January 2009, he was appointed as the General Manager of Grand Hyatt Muscat.

Commenting about his new appointment, Franzen said: “This is an incredible opportunity which I am thrilled to have, after working within Hyatt Corporation for over 13 years. I am looking forward to this new and exciting challenge to work across Qatar as General Manager of Grand Hyatt Doha. Qatar is a thriving and rapidly evolving market and I am confident that the team and I can continue to deliver incredible results.”
