DOHA: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) yesterday announced that it has already started works on the first phase of developing a wide network of utilities services that are to be implemented under the country’s urbanisation programme.
Once the network for water and electricity is developed owner of the plots of lands in these areas will get utility services connection within three days after the submission of applications, according to a press statement issued in Arabic by the utility distributor.
Under the new area development programme, Kahramaa aims at providing electricity and water services to all allottees of the lands in advance so that development of the land plots can be carried out smoothly.
It has announced to implement the utilities network developed project in three different phases. The phase one of the project will cover new areas where all the plots of lands are still remaining to be developed.
The second phase will cover areas which have been developed partially, while the third and the final phase will include areas that have almost been developed but some plots are still lying empty or undeveloped.
Ahmed Salim Al Maliki, head of water and electricity network development programme at Kahramaa, said: “We are taking all the necessary steps to avoid frequent and repeated excavation, especially in residential areas.”
“Kahramaa is committed to establish the highest level of standards, especially with regard to placing utilities boxes,” said Al Maliki. He said that Kahramaa is putting good quality ready-made concrete walls at different places with connection of water and electricity so that services can be provided immediately.
“The project is being implemented complying with the highest safety and quality standards in line with the long-term planning and strategy,” he said.
Under the first phase of the ongoing project, Kahramaa has already established some 45 electricity and water service boxes at various plots of lands.
As part of this ambitious infrastructure development project, Kahramaa is going to establish 2,000 electricity stations in different parts of the country to provide water and electricity to potential subscribers.
Under the network development project, Kahramaa is laying two types of power lines namely HV (2,400km) and MV (2,400km). The voltage of electricity will vary between 35 ampere and 200 ampere.
Once completed, this network will make the utilities services accessible to the areas that have already been approved in the plan for construction.
“Kahramaa is working hard to providing electricity and water services to subscribers even before the allottees obtain construction licenses. But we are facing the challenge to develop infrastructure network in seven areas, including Al Wakra (South), Al Wukair, Bani Hajer, Al Khairitiyat, Rawdat Al Hamam, Duhail, Al Khaisa and another areas.”
As per the agreement of the contract the project is to be implemented in three years. However, according to Kahramaa, it is expected to be completed within two years. The Peninsula
