BRAZIL--Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff strongly condemned Wednesday's "act of barbarism" on the offices of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo that left at least 12 people dead as an assault on democracy.
"I learned of this bloody and intolerable act of terrorism with great sorrow and indignation," Rousseff said in a statement.
"This act of barbarism, quite apart from the deplorable loss of life, is an unacceptable attack on the basic values of democratic societies and on the freedom of the press."
The Brazilian leader offered her condolences to the victims' families and expressed solidarity with the administration of French President Francois Hollande.
