Dhaka: Sheikh Hasina was sworn in Monday as Bangladesh's prime minister for the third consecutive term after her party ' Awami League' won the parliamentary elections in December.
Sheikh Hasina, 71, took oath before the country's President Abdul Hamid at the presidential palace in Dhaka along with her 46 cabinet members.
Hasina is the first prime minister in the history of Bangladesh to be elected for a third consecutive term of five years.
Her party 'Awami League' won 259 of the 299 seat-parliament in the December 30 elections.
At least 16 people were killed in the violence on the voting day. The opposition coalition, led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's 'Bangladesh Nationalist' Party rejected the election results.
Sheikh Hasina previously served as Bangladesh prime minister three terms; 1996 to 2001, 2009 to 2014 and 2014 to 2018.
