A mahout ties a rope around an elephant after it fell on a marshy land on the banks of the Vembanad Lake on the outskirts of southern Indian city of Kochi, yesterday. The elephant was brought to the banks of the lake after nearly six hours of rescue operation but died while receiving treatment.
