Abuja---Nigeria's electoral body discussed the possibility of a six-week delay to presidential elections on security grounds, lawmakers said on Saturday, a week before the scheduled vote.
The country's national security advisor, Sambo Dasuki, said military operations against Boko Haram in the northeast meant there would not be adequate security for the election, they added.
"On the basis of that, the national security advisor has requested INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) to consider rescheduling the elections for at least a period of six weeks," Bashir Yusuf, of the smaller PDM party, said after the meeting.
