The Doha Unit of the Marine Environment Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has seized abandoned fishing nets near Al Alia Island.

The department removed the nets and cleaned the area completely. These nets affect all kinds of wildlife, in which fish, grasses, coral reefs, turtles, dugongs, birds and marine engines get stuck.

The Marine Environment Protection Department is working to intensify control over the marine and coastal environment, especially during the marine fishing seasons to remove these irregularities.

The department also educates fishermen and workers in professions related to the fish sector about the marine fishing law and its executive regulations, which contribute to reducing fishing violations and ensuring sustainability of fisheries.

The department also constantly warns of illegal marine fishing practices, which lead to the risk of losing endangered species and harming the marine environment.
