Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has decided to establish a new police division dedicated to combating cybercrime, a senior minister said on Friday, as authorities respond to a rise in online offenses.
Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala said between 23 and 25 cybercrime cases are reported daily, a significant number for a country like Sri Lanka.
He said the police department is stepping up its equipment with improved technology, knowledge, and resources to strengthen investigations and resolve cybercrime more effectively.
