DOHA: The Cabinet in its meeting yesterday discussed the proposals of the Ministry of Labour related to amending some provisions of the labour law and decided to refer it for further study and for preparation of the necessary legislations.
The new proposals aim to provide proper care to the labourers and ensure their wages and other dues. They also aim to ensure adequate housing for the labourers and secure this by imposing more stringent financial penalties on the employers who violate the provisions of the law.
The cabinet also approved the draft decision of the director general of Qatar News Agency (QNA) setting the charges of advertisements which QNA provides on its e-websites. The Cabinet approved the draft agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of financial evasion as related to income tax between the governments of Qatar and South Africa and the attached draft protocol .
The cabinet then reviewed the two following topics and took appropriate decision: 1. A memo of the Ministry of Economy and Finance concerning a proposal setting to grant the civil servants or staff of the customs general administration the legally appointed trustee or officer status with label functions.
The ministry’s aforesaid proposal sets for amending the article 115 of the customs law issued as per law No. 40 of 2002 considering the customs administration staff as legally appointed officers while on duty and within limits of their functions. 2. The letter of the minister of economy and finance concerning the implementation of what is included in the Security Council resolution No. 2054 of 2012 regarding the embargo of arms supply to the Ivory Coast and banning the import of diamonds from it.
The cabinet welcomed the results of the 4th session of Qatari-Saudi Joint Coordination Council held in Doha on Monday.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud presided over the weekly regular meeting held at its Emiri Diwan Premises.
