DOHA: The Aljazeera International Docu-mentary Film Festival has become a dream to European youth, especially those interested in the documentary field. Hence, the festival’s management has received so many applications from European students to attend or to work as a volunteer in the festival activities.
One of the most touching message that the management received was from a British family, who want their daughter to participate as a volunteer in order to gain the required experience and get to know more about documentary films.
Abbas Arnaout, Managing Director of the festival, expressed his happiness at receiving dozens of emails from European youth.
He was also enthusiastic about the email he received from the British family.
“This indicates that our festival has expanded and that the European audience holds it in high esteem,” he commented.
In their message, the British family explained that their daughter is getting enrolled in university in September, where she will be studying documentary filmmaking.
Thus, the family want their daughter to get involved, as a volunteer and an attendee, in the festival activities and competitions so as to gain a hands-on experience before heading back to her home in Manchester.
Arnaout asserted that the festival management answered all participation requests promptly, especially that of the British family, and cordially welcomed all those who would like to attend the competitions or participate as volunteers.
This year, 15 European countries out of 33 countries are participating in the competitions.
France, Britain, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Holland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Serbia, Latvia, Bosnia and Norway are the European countries that will take part in the festival.
The upcoming ninth edition has seen an increase in participation as never before.” said Arnaout.
It is worth mentioning that the jury panel for festival competition has been formulated and the organising committees have set their plans in order to pave the way for the commencement of the festival activities by next week with the presence of the Jury Panel.
