ISLAMABAD: Besides an astounding number of 317 personnel of the Punjab Elite Force who provide VVIP security to former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and their families, 444 jawans of the Lahore Police Security Division, Punjab Constabulary and the Lahore District Police continue to guard the former rulers of Punjab at their private residences in Raiwind, Model Town and the Gulberg areas of Lahore.
According to the break-up of 761 policemen who continue to provide VVIP security to the Sharifs in Lahore at the expense of the taxpayers, 317 belong to the Punjab Elite Force, 302 are from the Lahore Police Security Division, 108 personnel belong to the Punjab Constabulary while 34 others are from the Lahore District Police.
UK MPs want aid to be conditional
LONDON: A British parliamentary committee has recommended to the British government to go ahead with a major increase in aid money to Pakistan only if taxes are collected from the Pakistani elite and anti-corruption efforts are supported and boosted.
The Department for International Development plans to increase its bilateral programme in Pakistan from £267m in 2012-13 to £446m in 2014-15, making Pakistan the largest recipient of UK aid, but the British parliamentarians want Pakistan to increase the proportion of GDP it collects in tax from the wealthy and the powerful.
Rescue training for students
PESHAWAR: The elementary and secondary education department will launch rescue training programmes in public schools across the province from the new academic year starting next week, according to officials.
District education officers have been directed to ensure introduction of civil defence training in government high schools and higher secondary schools.
