DOHA: Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) yesterday said Edward Dolman had decided to return to London and New York and will not be renewing his contract.
Dolman joined QMA three years ago as Executive Director of the Chairperson’s Office and later also assumed the role of acting CEO.
He oversaw the opening of several internationally-renowned exhibitions and successfully delivered QMA’s 10-year strategic plan. He will continue his association with QMA as member of the International Advisory Board.
“I feel honoured and privileged to have worked alongside such talented colleagues under the leadership of H H Sheikha Al Mayassa, whose vision and commitment to the arts in general and QMA in particular, makes the work we do in the development of museums, educational programmes and exhibitions so important to Qatar, the region and beyond,” he said.
“This work received international recognition last year when our endeavours in archaeology were rewarded by Unesco’s designation of Al Zubarah as a World Heritage Site. My decision to leave was a difficult one, but I know that QMA will continue to deliver world-class arts institutions over the coming years and will create better understanding between the world’s many cultures and faiths. We all look forward to the opening of National Museum of Qatar in two years.”
H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of QMA, said, “I would like to thank Ed Dolman for the progress made at QMA during his tenure. On behalf of QMA, I wish him well and success in his next endeavour.”
