Doha, Qatar: The Centre for Endowers’ Affairs at the General Directorate of Endowments, under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has received a new cash endowment valued at QR200,000 from a benefactor in support of the “Relief of Distress” endowment fund, part of the Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety.
The contribution will be directed, in line with the donor’s condition, toward alleviating the hardships of individuals in need.
The donation builds on the benefactor’s previous charitable contributions, reflecting a continued belief in the importance of waqf as an ongoing charity and its tangible impact on beneficiaries’ lives through a structured institutional framework that ensures sustainable support.
The “Relief of Distress” endowment focuses on assisting individuals and families facing urgent financial difficulties, helping ease their burdens and enhance their stability, which in turn contributes positively to social cohesion.
The initiative represents a practical model of how endowments respond to community needs, addressing humanitarian cases through coordinated mechanisms with relevant authorities to ensure proper assessment, swift delivery of assistance, and meaningful impact.
Commenting on the initiative, Saleh Al-Houl Al-Marri, Head of the Endowers’ Affairs Section at the Waqf Funds Department, said the “Relief of Distress” endowment is one of the endowment pathways closely connected to people’s daily lives, addressing their needs during times of hardship within an institutional framework that guarantees sustainability and effective management.
He added that receiving a donation from a repeat benefactor reflects a growing awareness of the importance of endowments in promoting social stability by providing sustainable resources directed toward humanitarian cases under precise governance.
Al-Marri also highlighted that ongoing charity, particularly waqf, continues to play a vital role across various fields supporting essential human needs, alleviating suffering, and reinforcing solidarity and social cohesion.
He noted that the Centre for Endowers’ Affairs continues to provide services to educate donors about endowments, facilitate procedures, and offer consultations to ensure funds are directed toward areas of greatest impact.
The Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety serves as a key channel for supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives, including relief for those in distress and broader efforts to strengthen community solidarity through an integrated endowment system.
The report also underscored the complementary role of different endowment funds, noting that the “Relief of Distress” endowment works alongside initiatives such as orphan sponsorship programmes to support priority humanitarian cases, reduce burdens on families, and enhance the psychological and living stability of orphaned children, reflecting the core objectives of waqf in safeguarding human dignity.
The General Directorate of Endowments has called on philanthropists wishing to establish endowments to contribute through multiple channels, including online donations via its official website, mobile giving services, and dedicated contact numbers, making it easier to participate in sustainable charitable giving.
