Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is proceeding with the Qatari humanitarian aid programme for the people of Sudan, with a new batch of food aid launched in cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS), for the benefit of poor and affected families in three states.
Held in Port Sudan, the launching ceremony was attended by H E Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sada, Ambassador of Qatar to Sudan, Ahmed Al-Tayeb Suleiman, Secretary-General of SRCS, representatives of the target states, and QRCS’s team.
During the event, Dr. Salah Al-Din Daak, head of QRCS’s representation office in Sudan, said the plan involved a total of 8,875 food parcels to be distributed over the coming few days, as follows: 5,000 in North Kordofan, 1,000 in River Nile, and 2,875 in White Nile.
He described this aid as part of the State of Qatar’s commitment to supporting affected people and enhancing food security in the most vulnerable areas.
Suleiman valued the nonstop humanitarian efforts by Qatar, Ambassador, and Qatari humanitarian organisations. He emphasised that SRCS chapters and volunteers were well in place to carry out the distribution process effectively and transparently, ensuring the timely delivery of aid to those in need.
This intervention is one of numerous humanitarian initiatives implemented by QRCS and other Qatari relief organisations in support of the Sudanese people amid the current humanitarian conditions.
QRCS is raising funds from charity payers to distribute 8,442 diverse food parcels containing local staples to 50,652 poor and displaced beneficiaries in Sudan, at a cost of QR385 per parcel.
