Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs has opened three new mosques that accommodate up to 2,175 worshippers in Glea, Umm Salal and Aniza areas. The three new mosques will be added to another three which were opened earlier last month in Aziziya, Al Khor and Lmreikh areas that accommodate a total of 1,521 worshippers.
The opening of new mosques falls within the context of the ministry’s plan to double the number of mosques in all regions according to specific criteria, architectural heritage and environmentenvisioned in the Qatar National Vision 2030 .
The capacity of the first mosque in Glea reaches to 850 worshipers in the main hall and 180 in the daily hall and 105 in the women hall in addition to the other facilities such as public parking areas, taking into account the people with special needs and a residence for the imam.
While the mosque in Umm Salal area accommodates 536 worshippers in the main hall, 177 in the mezzanine and 57 in the women’s hall.
The mosque located in Aniza area is to accommodate 270 worshippers in addition to residence house of the imam and another annexed to the mosque for the muezzin.
The mosques department at the ministry confirmed that these mosques have been provided with all facilities to render safe and complete services to the worshippers which come to keep up with population growth in the state.
